To Dante! You are exactly right! We are naming drummers we know and heard before. So naturally, would we name Jonathan Carter? My point, How can I hear this beast? Is he on wax? And my own opinnion, Although Marvin Mcquitty is a hot drummer, I .....I wouldn't put him in the same category with Calvin and Gerald. By the way, have you listened to some of the drummers we have named over the last 7 pages? You make a BIG statement to say this kid can put all these cats to shame. I would Love to hear him! Let me know

You guys are nuts! I have two choices for a five piece band. it has to be one or the other
shedrick mitchell (organ) whitney houston, liza maneli.... jermain parish (drums) Joe natural (guitar) usher, mint condition al boggie carty (bass) Joe, Donell Jones, Glen Lewis, Little flip, Toby lightman, De la Soul, Deitrick Haddon, Fred Hammond, Tamia....... Jamie Hawkins (keys) Lauren Hill, Boys II Men, Jodeci, Mary J., hammer, walter hawkins, michael jackson .............
John Blackwell (Drums) Prince Al Boogie (Bass) natural (guitar) John Peters (organ) every churches dream! Jeff Motley (keys) Mary J,. R. Kelly, Boys II Men........
although these guys have great resumes their actual skill and playing ability sets them apart from many of the musicians out there. they have a distinguished sound.

I thought I was a great bass player myself until I heard heard Al at serveral functions and on CD. I've had a chance to sit with him and talk with him. He's beastly. Quiet as it's kept I hear a lot of players trying to "immulate" his style of playing. His placement, chops and licks are ridiculous. He really knows his instrument and has jazz influences. Not just "a fly by night r&b/gospel" player. Have you heard the God is good single by Deitrick haddon? Al plays on that......BEAST
You can't tell me that Jamie Hawkins isn't one of the BADEST keyboard players around. You're nuts Pastor J! He is amazing. Cat's sleep on him cause he's from cali. Natural is a beast too.

actually i know al pretty well i was in his wedding. and you are totally right about Al. however you are not right about Jamie. i heard his entire demo and i have heard him play. he is very good but not someone you might call home about. in fact al used to play with Jamie, that's how he met his wife.

Married? Al looks 17. I don't care what you say i had a chance to hear jamie live with his dad and he is definitely something to write home about. what instrument do you pllay? me and my boys are sitting here going over your remarks and we've come to the conclusion that you're bonkers! the people named in my five piece band maybe excluding one keyboardist are must haves.

yeah al is married going on 27. anyway i have heard all of these cats in different situations. and the one word that comes to mind is overrated. in fact 99% of the gospel/r&b cats are overrated. please believe me, it's true. in any case i play drums and i can understand why you guys feel the way you do especially if you are from Brooklyn. are you guys from brooklyn and what do you guys play? i know my remarks seem crazy but believe me i can prove it to you.

YO WHAT UP FELLOW MUSICIANS. I DID A GIG AT THE HOUSE OF BLUES AND OVERHEARD DUDES TALKING ABOUT THIS "AL BOOGIE" AS THEIR CHOICE ON BASS. WHERE IS HE FROM? I WOULD LIKE TO HEAR HIM FOR MYSELF. ALSO WHY IS IT THAT WHEN WE TALK ABOUT "THE BEST OF" WE ALWAYS FORGET THE "FOR REAL" CATS LIKE OMAR HAKIM?

first of all omar hakim is not a real cat. he is actually quite the pitiful drummer. anyway al is from New Jersey and you can check him out on the toby lightman tour.

my boy told me he is from NYC? and you seem to be a real critic about everybody. with all due respect what makes you and your choices so great? there are so many drummers out there, but there are only a few that have paved the way for the drummers today....i feel omar hakim is one of those drummers. the only cat you mentioned that i ever heard of before is that kid al and i am definitely on the circuit.

Yo my man 'drumsandbass' I have to agree with you, Omar, in his day, was the man , and with all due respect is still honorable. I think our minds can only go so far and we do have a tendency to over rate. Most of our choices come from personal experiences and relationships. just like the world's fastest man is only the world's fastest recorded on that day, not necessarily the world's fastest ever! And I think it's the same in music. It's whoever had a good night that night! There's been many times I wanted to stop playing bass and some nights John Pattitucci wouldn't have wanted to come in. Point being every'who we consider' great drummer has been inspired by some other drummer in some way but that didn't mean he was the greatest @ that time. But @ that time he was the greatest "To You". No matter what if the ship sinks I'm going down with............Li'l John Roberts!!!!!!
