Sput Seawright is cool but I don't think just because he got on a few hot projects that he is an all time favorite. Andrew Ward on the other hand is absolutely one of the drummer world's best kept secret (Don't sleep on him fellas). My picks are Jeremy Haynes Jeff Davis Ray Bady!

i just got finished listening to tonex's new album very carefully. i am going to have to agree with you. he is not as good as i thought he was. and i have been telling cats about andrew ward for a long time and they are not listening. the last three guys that you mentioned i am going to have to disagree with you there. jeff davis used to be good but he just aint got it no more. i think you should look at my list one more time.

The Title says" All time favorite gospel hip-hop drummers" . The guys I named are not your over-night wonders. I don't necessarily mean they r the greatest they have been in this thing way longer than most (with a respectful resume). Most of these up and coming cats are very nice with the tricks and crazy timing, but when you say All Time I look at history. Jeff is a little dated but he paved the way for cats like Gerald, Ladell, Calvin. Hez Walker has a song out called I'll make it. The very first time he recorded that song was on his Very first album who played drums ? (smile)! It was hip-hop before the world recognized hip-hop gospel!

i know what the title says, but i am an educated musician. i have learned to respect the history of music while at the same time my ears don't decieve me. so no matter what my heart says i have to be honest and realistic. with the exception of jeff davis, all of these guys have relatively small or insignificant resumes. and i am not saying that because i am trying to impune their drumming skills. i think that they are good drummers. but like you said we do live in time. so i have to appreciate everyone i have ever heard play, no matter WHEN they played or WHO they played for. skills are simply skills no matter whe or where showed them. just because andrew ward has a limited resume there is no way in the world you are going to tell me that jeff davis is a better drummer. no matter who played for who, Andrew ward has demonstrated that he has more skills in more areas than just about every other drummer. and believe me, i live in new york. i have heard just about EVERY drummer out there. plain and simple we have to rasie the bar in gospel music. just because a person played for a certain artist or played on a certain album, we dont owe them any more accolades than they deserve. there are cats out there that we probably have never heard of that deserve to be recognized. we should all respect that.

If you read my previous remarks, I told you that the drummers I named were not necessarily the greatest. I agree, you r absolutely correct, Andy Ward would probably chop for chop clean Jeff Davis. And probably 10 other drummers that I've never heard of in the age range of 15 to 20. So this sight really should be, Name the best drummer then right? In the NBA the hottest players are probably...Koby Bryant,Tracy Mcgrady,Shaq,Allen Iverson,Labron James and so on... That's now, But when you say "All Time" I cant just kick Michael Jordan to the side because today he can't compete on their level. This man Revolutionized the game in his day for basketball to b at it's level today! I agree we do have to come up in gospel music but up to where your expectations? You've down-played everything but what moves you. I can't wait to purchase your c.d. ;D

thank you. i am glad you would like to purchase my cd. it shoule be out before the end of the year. and you are right. my expectations seem to be unrealistically high. but that is how it should be for musicians who profess to use their talent for God's glory. and the way that i look at it, if a person could have dominated in their field of interest, at their prime, and still compete with present competitors, then that person should be recognized. micheal jordan had the kind of skills where he would have dominated no matter when he played. buddy rich had the kind of skills where he would have dominated no matter when he played. and no music is not about competition. but it is about skill. some cats have it and some cats just don't. 95% of the cats playing gospel music shouldnt be. if you don't have the comittment to become a great musician and put out great music then why waste your time? even in the Bible, out of the 4288 musicians there were in Israel, only 288 were able to play in the service of the Lord. WHY? because only 288 musicians were considered skill. let me ask you something what do you consider a good or great musician? and what makes for a bad musician?

The level of music in gospel should be high but God dont just accept anything because of talent. There are many talented and skilled people in the world, but that doesn't necessarily mean that they are musicians. I can draw, and fairly well I might add, but I am not an artist. My best friend is excellent @ working on cars but he's not a mechanic. And that's where I disagree. In gospel music it is not All about skill. In all the musicians that were in the bible one stuck out more than the others...right David! Although there were many that could probably blow him away, He stood out because of his heart and relationship with God! This is not a bible study web page so I'll move on"I apologize!"True that 95% should not be, But look who we have to choose from. Where are the true artist? And believe it or not, Some of this stuff that's being played, they think they r true professionals and they think their music is great how do you dispute that? With your different opinion? Is there a such thing as a bad musician? If you have reached musician status I think you have proven to be capable of rendering some sort of service. I think we have taken the word musician lightly and out of content! A great musician (not necessarily gospel) I think has to take the necessary steps as a Doctor would to become M.D. Practice your craft day in and out physically and mentally! I'm sorry a little lengthy. i'll stop here.!

you are absolutely right about david and i love talking about the Bible. you are also right about what it takes to be a great musician. if our hearts are right why settle at what we can do. you know it is not done in the spirit of excellence if there is no challenge. i have spoken to so many musicians and they just don't know what it menas to have musical skill. they have talent but they do not have the skill. every other kind of music you cannot play unless you have skill, but in GOD'S music we can care less it is a shame.

I totally agree! I think young immature, more talent and skill hungry kids have gotten in to key positions in the music industry and were able to make key calls to set the so called standard in Gospel music. How is it that secular musicians like you say move secular music to this high level and when they play Gospel it is subpar? Well when God kicked the devil out of heaven he didn't strip him of his talent and we all know he was the chief musician in heaven..........need I say more? Oh but where we fall short is that we don't take the time to understand music the technical side and you can forget the spiritual side! We just go off raw talent, therefore the devil is able to use our own talent to present garbage to God. and we have a large supporting cast saying" Go Go Go Go" like what is going on is sooo cool! It is a shame. I'm not bashing secular music or young musicians, they both have their respective places, just makeing a personal view!

I don't have any specific favorites because they all bring something special and unique to the table. My interests is piqued by Thomas Pridgen,Eric Moore,Paul Campbell,Danul Cabbagestalk,Aaron Spears,Chris Coleman and Andrew Ward,Robert "Sput" Seawright. Where can I find some recordings of Andrew Ward drumming? Also, who is Ladell Abrams with now? I've been listening to Calvin Rodgers of late. And I would like to check out Carlin Muccular and Marcus Finney.
